Oceans Converge, Sun Intensifies, Winds Howl and Mountains Rise All in a Day's Work on South African Vineyards

hite grape varieties have emerged as dominant among South African vineyards, with chenin blanc the most prevelant among the grapes grown in the country. The bulk of South African growing and wine-making occurs in coastal regions near the dramatic convergence of the Atlantic and Indian oceans. In this southern-most region of the African continent, the climate is noteworthy for spectacular sunlight and dry heat, and the growing season occurs between November and April.

Fleur du Cap
Fleur du Cap—one of South Africa’s premier and best known wines—if one of the flagships of the Distell group, the country’s top producer and marketer of fine wines and spirits. Inspired by nature, Fleur du Cap is a collection of premium wines crafted in a style determined by the grapes themselves, allowing the full expression of the wine.

Juno Wines
Produced under the expert guidance of pro- duction partner Charles Black, Juno’s wines stem from the prime viticultural areas of the Cape. In our search for the balance between the expression of terroir and varietal typicity, grapes are selected from our vineyards from Stellenbosch, Paarl, Malmesbury, Darling and even high up in the Piekenierskloof outside Citrusdal. Juno produces two series of wine, our trademark Cape Maidens series – adorned with labels by the artist Tertia du Toit as well as the Arthouse series of premium blends. Since the advent of the production partnership with Charles it has been our singular aim to produce expressive wines that cannot be bettered at their price points. The 2008 and 2009 releases have gone a long way towards achieving that goal.

Meerlust
Long recognized for producing world-class wines, Meerlust Estate has been the pride of the My- burgh family since 1756. Today, the traditional dedication to the art of winemaking continues under the guidance of Hannes Myburgh, eighth generation custodian of the 17th Century national monument.

Neil Ellis Wines
In 1986 Neil Ellis took a calculated leap of faith into the wine-negociant arena, buying and vinifying grapes from selected vineyards and marketing these hand-reared wines under his own label. Mindful that exceptional terroir and assiduous vineyard cultivation form the bedrock of great wine, Neil forged long-term supply partnerships with top grape growers in premium areas. Today the same philosophy—sourcing superior grapes from low-yielding, hand selected vineyard lots in the Cape’s top terroirs—remains the mainstay of our wines.

Rietvallei Wine Estate
Rietvallei Wine Estate is a family-owned wine estate and one of the oldest wine farms in Robertson. It is situated in the Klaas Voogs ward, eight kilometers east of Robertson in the Western Cape, South Africa. The farm was bought in 1864 by Alewyn Burger for his son Jacobus Francois. Koos Burger then framed the estate and was 70 years old when he planted a Muscadel vineyard on the farm, today the oldest of its kind in South Africa and celebrating its centenary.

Southern Right Cellars
The first Southern Right Pinotage and Sauvignon Blanc were released in 1995. As an early ripening grape, it is Anthony’s belief that Pinotage will perform best in cooler, maritime areas. With each bottle of Southern Right wine sold, Southern Right Cellars makes a contribution to Southern Right whale conservation in the Walker Bay.
